This photo is of you two weeks old, look how big your clothes are!
You were very little when you were born, small and sweet. Hopefully, these words I am writing to you now are all ready on your heart by the time you can read this letter.
Right now, this minute I am typing, you are asleep in your room. You are 15 months and a half old.
These are the things I want you to know:
1) You are precious and beautiful. When I look at your face, my heart grows because you are filled with so much promise.
2) You are strong and brave. You have wonder about the world.
3) You are smart. You started teaching me the day you were born. You knew how to express everything you needed or wanted right away. You cried differently when you were tired or hungry or frustrated, so I would know how to help you before you had words. You taught me not to worry about being your mom, because you would help me. And sometimes, when I don’t understand why you cry, I just hold you very close to me and I whisper, “I am here, I am here.” I do this so in some small way you can know there are pains I cannot fix, but I will stay with you in them. I will be here and in the times when I am not with you, remember you are strong and brave.
I love you and my love motivates me to explore all the different ways to tell you these important things. Sometimes, I sing it to you in songs while your eyes are wide, looking at your world. I read it aloud to you in stories. I quietly communicate it to you while you nap against my chest. I softly speak as you fall asleep, “Micaela, you are precious and beautiful and strong and brave and smart.” These truths will grow in your mind and heart, you will not be able to recall when you first learned them, for they have always been a part of you.
